ARAP Scheme
Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy

The ARAP Scheme is for Afghan citizens who worked for or with the UK Government in Afghanistan in exposed or meaningful roles and may include an offer of relocation to the UK for those deemed eligible by the Ministry of Defence and who are deemed suitable for relocation by the Home Office. The ARAP Scheme was launched on 1 April 2021 and remains open.
Families who arrived into the UK in 2021 may have come to us from bridging hotels in the UK and have indefinite leave to remain in the country. Families are housed in MOD temporary accommodation with tenancy and move-on support delivered by The Roberts Centre. We have supported 13 families between April 22– March 23.
Case Study
Mr S arrived in the UK during the summer of 2021. The Roberts Centre helped him and his family to settle into their temporary accommodation in Portsmouth. This included supporting the enrolment of children into schools, doctors' and dentist’s appointments, and finding college courses to learn English.
Since then, with the support of the Roberts Centre Mr S has found full-time employment, enabling the family to move into their permanent privately rented accommodation. Mrs S has attended English classes which has given her the confidence to volunteer in a local charity shop and hopes to work in a school in the future. The children have succeeded in school with the oldest child taking their GCSEs and has already been offered a place at college. Both children have found outside activities to establish a good group of supportive friends.
